A man broke into another person's home and slashed the neck of a 6-year-old girl with a knife. Police have since apprehended the suspect and will examine his mental state before pursuing legal charges.
On 23 Jan 2026, it was reported that at 9:00 p.m. on 22 Jan, Police Lieutenant Apai Sanehwong, deputy investigator at Mueang Roi Et Police Station, was notified of a stabbing assault inside a residence in the Non Sa-ard community, Khon Kaen Subdistrict, Mueang District, Roi Et Province. Upon receiving the report, officers and emergency medical teams from Khon Kaen Subdistrict Administrative Organization, along with an investigative unit, promptly proceeded to the scene.
The location was a single-story concrete house’s living room used for watching television. Inspection revealed large bloodstains scattered across the living room and kitchen floors. The victim was a 6-year-old girl, who had already been taken to receive medical treatment by emergency personnel. She had knife wounds on her neck and nose.
The homeowner stated that before the incident, the girl was watching TV alone in the living room, while others were cooking in the kitchen. They then heard the girl scream and run into the kitchen, revealing injuries to her neck and nose. Upon investigation, they found a man approximately 30-40 years old, who fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Later, the investigative team tracked down and arrested the suspect within the same village. The suspect was identified as Atthapon, 35. He confessed, claiming he experienced auditory hallucinations commanding him to commit the act. He admitted to using a knife to attack the girl before fleeing and discarding the weapon.
In preliminary questioning, Atthapon admitted to the attack. He stated he heard voices ordering him to kill someone in that house. His own home was nearby. He took a fruit knife and entered the house, finding only the young girl inside, whom he immediately attacked by slashing her neck and nose. When she screamed, he panicked, fled, and disposed of the knife in a pond, until later being apprehended by authorities.
Police will initially test the suspect for drugs and review his psychiatric treatment history. If diagnosed with a mental illness, he will enter a legal treatment process. However, if doctors determine he is responsible for his actions, he will face criminal prosecution under the law.
The girl’s condition remains under close medical supervision. Police emphasized they will handle the case carefully and ensure fairness to all parties involved.
