A 13-year-old boy arranged to meet friends to hang out on a canal bridge but was shot dead by a rival. Witnesses revealed that more than 10 youths on six motorcycles carried out the attack.
At 01:09 on 23 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Lieutenant Colonel Asawin Phongsakul, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Bang Khen Police Station, received a report of a juvenile shot with a firearm inside Soi Phahonyothin 57, Anusawari Subdistrict, Bang Khen District, Bangkok. He promptly went to the scene along with Police Colonel Anan Worasart, Chief of Bang Khen Police Station; Police Lieutenant Colonel Kanin Kamkoon, Deputy Superintendent of Patrol; Police Lieutenant Colonel Prateep Khamee, Patrol Officer; officers from the Investigation Division, Metropolitan Police Division 2; patrol officers from 191; Bang Khen police detectives; forensic officials; medical examiners from Bhumibol Hospital; and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers.
At the scene near the Ruamjai Phatthana Tai community at the foot of the bridge crossing the canal, officers found the body of a male juvenile, identified as Nong (pseudonym), aged 13. He was wearing a red short-sleeved T-shirt with yellow stripes and black shorts. He had a gunshot wound to the right side of his chest above the nipple and was lying on his back, deceased. About 100 meters away, two 9mm bullet casings and one .38 caliber casing were found on the concrete walkway. These were collected as evidence.
When questioned, Nong (pseudonym), aged 14 and a friend of the victim, said that before the incident they had arranged to sit and hang out as usual by the canal. While the victim was walking, a group of over 10 youths on six motorcycles arrived. Two young men dressed in black with full-face helmets approached, shouted “Hey, Pro,” then fired 3-4 shots. He and others ran onto the canal bridge, but his friend fell, losing consciousness. He later learned his friend had been shot and died.
Initially, police investigators are reviewing CCTV footage along the route taken by the youths on motorcycles who fled the scene, and are urgently working to apprehend the suspects to prosecute them under the law.
