Two senior deputy commanders of the Central Investigation Bureau held a tense meeting after taking over the gold bribery case involving 246 baht from the National Anti-Corruption Commission, following the transfer of the case file to the Police Anti-Corruption Division for continued investigation.
At 09:00 on 23 Jan 2026 GMT+7, on the 16th floor of the Phithak Santi Building at the Police Anti-Corruption and Misconduct Suppression Division headquarters under the Central Investigation Bureau, a working group met to devise strategies for handling a major case.
The meeting, led by Police Major Generals Suwat Saengnum and Jaroonkiat Pankaew, both deputy commanders of the Central Investigation Bureau, included investigators from the Crime Suppression Division and the Anti-Corruption Division. They jointly discussed preparations to implement the resolution of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, which had returned the case file of the "246 Baht Gold Bribery" to the Anti-Corruption Division investigators for legal proceedings.
This highly watched case involves bribery using over 246 baht of gold ornaments and gold bars in exchange for favorable treatment in a major investigation. Previously, the case file was submitted to the National Anti-Corruption Commission for consideration under its authority.
An investigative team is being formed to select experts capable of handling the complex case file, with plans to expand the investigation by tracing financial transactions and identifying additional involved persons beyond the gold evidence. A structured work plan and timeline are being established to ensure the investigation proceeds efficiently and thoroughly after officially receiving the documents.
This recent development reflects cooperation between oversight agencies and the police to accelerate the crackdown on high-level corruption.
