Local Official in Nakhon Ratchasima Held for Attempted Gold Shop Robbery, Cites Pressure from Illegal Debt

Police from Muang Nakhon Ratchasima station detained Sergeant Major Wichian, a local political official from Pho Klang municipality, to reenact his confession in the attempted robbery of a gold shop. He admitted being overwhelmed by illegal debts, which caused him significant stress and pressure, leading him to decide to commit the crime.

This concerns the incident where a lone perpetrator attempted to rob a gold shop in Ban Nong Prue, Pho Klang Subdistrict, Muang District, Nakhon Ratchasima. The suspect was fully covered, wearing a gray-black jumpsuit and a helmet, and used an automatic pistol to fire one shot to threaten staff. The bullet hit a display glass inside the shop causing damage, but the suspect fled without taking any property, as previously reported.

At 13:00 on 25 January 2026, officers from Muang Nakhon Ratchasima police station took Sergeant Major Wichian Sirisathit, a member of Pho Klang Subdistrict Municipality Council and the suspect in the solo attempted gold shop robbery, to reenact the crime scene. The event was heavily secured with a large number of onlookers present.

Authorities reconstructed the sequence starting with the suspect parking his motorcycle, then drawing a handgun to enter the shop, threatening staff to steal gold jewelry. He fired the gun inside the shop, causing widespread alarm in the area.

During further questioning at the reenactment, Sergeant Major Wichian appeared tense and admitted facing severe financial crisis due to cash flow shortages and high living expenses beyond his means. He resorted to illegal loans and became trapped in daily interest debt for an extended period. Under increasing pressure from debt collectors, he decided to commit the robbery to raise money to repay debts. Regarding the gunshot, he insisted he had no intention to harm anyone or shoot at staff but panicked, causing the gun to accidentally discharge during the confrontation.

After the reenactment, investigators took the suspect back to the station to proceed with legal action. He faces serious charges including attempted robbery with a firearm, carrying a firearm in public, and discharging a weapon in a community without cause. Police are preparing to file charges in court. Local residents expressed shock since the suspect is a well-known two-term municipal council member in Pho Klang.
