
Cyber police arrested a man selling illegal firearms online after sending an undercover agent to infiltrate a Facebook group. The suspect confessed he was raising money to start a noodle business.
On 26 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Lt. Gen. Suraphol Prembutr, Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, along with Pol. Lt. Gen. Naradet Thiprak, Commander attached to the Royal Thai Police Office, Pol. Maj. Gen. Wiwat Khamchamnarn, Deputy Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, Pol. Maj. Gen. Thinkorn Rangmat, Deputy Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, ordered Pol. Maj. Gen. Komkrit Sukthai, Commander of Cyber Crime Division 3, Pol. Col. Natthapong Promphrai, Superintendent of Division 4 Cyber Crime Division 3, Pol. Lt. Col. Ekachai Duangkaes and Pol. Lt. Col. Wisanu Jantakat, investigators of Division 4 Cyber Crime Division 3, with a special operations team from the Provincial Police Region 4 to arrest Mr. Yongsilp Swaisi, 32, from Khon Kaen Province, seizing one .380 caliber pistol and 35 rounds of ammunition.
He was charged with "selling firearms and ammunition without permission, possessing firearms and ammunition without permission, and carrying firearms in a city, village, or public place without permission" under the Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks and Imitation Firearms Act B.E. 2490 (1947).
The investigation began when the Division 4 Cyber Crime team discovered illegal gun sales activity in a secret Facebook group. They assigned an undercover agent to join the group, where an anonymous Facebook user later identified as Mr. Yongsilp commented that he had firearms for sale. They negotiated a gun sale at 20,000 baht and arranged to meet on Chaeng Sanit Road, Ban Phai Subdistrict, Ban Phai District, Khon Kaen Province, where they arrested him with the firearm as evidence.
During initial questioning, Mr. Yongsilp admitted the seized gun was his. He said he bought it from another Facebook user who had been previously arrested, at a low price, intending to resell it for profit to raise money to open a noodle shop. He is now in custody for legal proceedings.
