The Chief of Udonthani City Police Station disclosed that police have submitted a request to the Military Court at the 24th Military Circle for approval to issue an arrest warrant related to a 'rowdy soldier,' a member of the army, who allegedly used a firearm to attack the brother-in-law of famous influencer Umpansuk. Meanwhile, the soldier's commanding officer has initiated dismissal proceedings due to absenteeism, confirming the use of a strategy escalating from mild to severe measures.
In the case reported on the Facebook page of Umpansuk, a well-known influencer, a clip from a home security camera shows a soldier driving a sedan to park in front of a house and verbally abusing the brother-in-law, who had just arrived in a van and parked outside. The brother-in-law quickly ran inside the house, but the soldier drew a gun and fired at him. Fortunately, the bullet missed and struck the rear window of a black Toyota Yaris parked outside, shattering the glass, before fleeing the scene. The incident occurred at a residence in Soi Senipitakchon 5, Nong Khon Kwang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Udonthani Province, at 16:24 on 25 January 2026. After the incident, Pol. Lt. Col. Pichet Pakketat, Deputy Chief of the Investigation Unit at Udonthani City Police Station, along with investigators, went to the scene and found the rear window glass shattered and a 9mm bullet casing at the scene.
Following developments on 26 January 2026, reporters visited the scene and found a locked single-story concrete house. The homeowner, Mr. Jack, and his wife, Ms. Pao, were not present. Only a pickup truck and a black Toyota Yaris with license plate Khon 9126 Udonthani remained parked inside, showing damage to the rear window. Neighbors reported that the homeowners had taken their family elsewhere out of safety concerns, fearing the soldier might return to cause further trouble.
Retired Police Lieutenant Torngkiat Boonnorat, 72, a former border patrol police officer at Senironyut Camp in Udonthani and a neighbor living directly opposite the incident site, recounted that Mr. Jack and Ms. Pao are good neighbors. Mr. Jack drives a van, and Ms. Pao runs a beauty business. The soldier's girlfriend works at a beauty salon. The soldier allegedly came to threaten and intimidate because he suspected the girlfriend was staying at Mr. Jack's house and accused her of being attracted to Mr. Jack, although the soldier and his girlfriend had separated long ago. In June last year, the soldier climbed the fence with a gun and threatened the homeowners, who then filed a complaint. The soldier's commanders have summoned both the soldier and his girlfriend several times.
Lieutenant Torngkiat continued that despite the summons, the soldier continued to threaten them. Yesterday, while standing outside his house, he saw Mr. Jack park his van in front of the house, and the soldier arrived in a sedan and parked facing him. The soldier then drew a gun and confronted Mr. Jack aggressively. Mr. Jack did not retaliate. Shortly after, the soldier fired one shot at Mr. Jack but luckily hit the rear window of the sedan instead, then fled. Udonthani City Police investigators arrived soon after, found a 9mm bullet casing on the ground, and collected it as evidence. Lieutenant Torngkiat, who witnessed the entire event, said he is not afraid.
"Mr. Jack always explains that the cause is jealousy—the soldier imagined his girlfriend was attracted to Mr. Jack and had been hiding at their house. The soldier invaded the home several times with a gun and threatened them on two occasions. His girlfriend ran away and has not been seen at the house. I personally believe this soldier is abnormal—either intoxicated or mentally unstable—he deliberately fired at someone. The crime is complete and should be charged as attempted murder, with clear evidence from the security cameras. Soldiers serve to defend the nation and are loved by the public, but this soldier is a black sheep damaging the army's reputation."
Pol. Col. Patanawong Janpol, Chief of Udonthani City Police Station, revealed that the investigation divides into two cases: the earlier incident in June and the recent one yesterday. Investigators are currently seeking an arrest warrant from the Military Court at the 24th Military Circle. The first case involves charges of 'home invasion,' and the latest charges are for 'attempted murder,' both filed by the victim. The suspect has been summoned twice for the first case but did not appear. His commanders noted he seemed confused and stressed due to debt problems accumulated during his marriage, adding to his stress.
"Regarding yesterday's incident, it stemmed from the suspect's commanders calling him in to discuss the earlier case, as the victim had consulted his sister to mediate but feared for safety. A mediation meeting was scheduled by the commanders but was unproductive, leading to the decision to proceed with prosecution. The suspect felt pressured, which likely contributed to his actions yesterday. Regarding his wife, commanders reported that the suspect and his wife have separated due to ongoing domestic abuse and frequent arguments, leading to their separation. The jealousy issues stem from the suspect's unfounded suspicions of infidelity."
Pol. Col. Patanawong further stated that the victim explained that initially, the couple had taken the suspect's girlfriend to the beauty salon where she works. This led the suspect to misunderstand that the male victim was involved with his girlfriend, which was untrue. It is also known from the suspect's relatives that he has been prescribed psychiatric medication. Currently, the commanders have initiated dismissal proceedings due to absenteeism. Regarding rumors that the suspect would surrender, it is known he is acquainted with the investigative police unit, has contacted them, and possesses weapons. Police are employing a strategy escalating from mild to strong to minimize harm. If the arrest warrant is issued during his surrender journey, it will be presented. The suspect remains in the area and monitors social media, which may affect his emotions. Police request time to complete procedures today and have coordinated continuously with commanders and the suspect's relatives to encourage surrender.
