Pickup Truck Crashes Through Checkpoint, Abandons 15 Sacks of Ice Before Fleeing Into Forest

A pickup truck with a covered bed broke through a checkpoint, abandoned 15 sacks of ice as evidence, then fled into the forest beside the Rangsit canal. Police are urgently investigating to find the driver.

On 27 Jan 2026, it was reported that at 22:00 on 26 Jan, Police Lieutenant Colonel Pairut Thapsang, investigator at Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station, received information from officers manning a traffic discipline checkpoint under Kaew Bridge, Prachathipat Subdistrict, Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani. A suspicious pickup truck broke through the checkpoint and headed along the Rangsit Prayoonsak canal before being abandoned as the driver fled into the forest. Preliminary inspection found 15 sacks of ice (methamphetamine) hidden in the covered bed of the pickup. After receiving the report, officers notified their superiors and quickly proceeded to the scene with Police Colonel Adirek Pothipan, chief of Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station, and the station's investigation team.

At the scene near a large billboard, officers found a bronze silver Toyota Vigo pickup truck bearing Sing Buri license plates, though the tax sticker indicated a Toyota registered in Bangkok. Inside the covered bed at the back, 15 sacks of ice were discovered, each weighing about 25 kilograms. The driver had fled on foot. Officers spread out to search and requested lighting equipment from Rangsit Municipality rescue workers. So far, no trace of the driver has been found.

Police Colonel Adirek Pothipan, chief of Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station, revealed that at the time of the incident, officers had set up a checkpoint under Kaew Bridge. They signaled the vehicle to stop for inspection and questioning, but as the pickup came from Don Mueang direction, the driver opened the door and fled into the forest alone. The vehicle was found to contain 15 sacks of ice, each about 25 kilograms. Forensic officers are expected to examine the vehicle for DNA evidence. They will also verify whether the license plates are genuine or fake to identify the driver.

Regarding drug suppression efforts, Pratunam Chulalongkorn Police Station has set checkpoints and arrested offenders before. Previously, they seized over 10,000 methamphetamine pills during a similar operation. Investigations will continue to track down the driver and associated networks for prosecution under the law.

Concerning checkpoint operations that may inconvenience local residents and shop owners in the area, authorities have issued a public notice to encourage understanding of these duties, which aim to prevent and suppress drug trafficking in the region.
