McLaren 720S Supercar Crashes into Utility Pole and Burns Completely While Visiting Nan Province

A McLaren 720S supercar worth no less than 25 million baht lost control, veered off the road, and crashed into a utility pole, burning completely while traveling as a tourist in Nan province.

At approximately 17:56 on 30 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Lieutenant Colonel Thanarong Intakan, an investigator at Tha Wang Pha Police Station in Nan province, received a report from the Nan 191 radio center of a supercar losing control, crashing into a utility pole, and catching fire on the Nan–Thung Chang road, in Village 1, Pa Kha Subdistrict, Tha Wang Pha District, Nan, just before the Pa Kha Subdistrict Administrative Organization office.

Upon notification, Police Colonel Suriya Khunto, superintendent of Tha Wang Pha Police Station, along with police officers, rescue teams, fire trucks from Pa Kha Subdistrict Administrative Organization, Tha Wang Pha Municipality, and Phetkasem Nan Foundation personnel, rushed to the scene to investigate.

At the scene, a white McLaren 720S supercar with license plate Kaw 1 Saraburi was found crashed into a roadside utility pole. The vehicle was severely damaged by fire, reduced to a burnt-out wreck of metal scraps.

Officials sprayed water to control and extinguish the fire, then safely rescued the driver from the vehicle. Initial first aid was provided at the scene before the Phetkasem Nan rescue team transported the injured to Tha Wang Pha Hospital.

The injured was identified as Mr. Patcharapong Asawaphusitkul, 34, from Lopburi province, who sustained injuries from the incident. Additionally, official property damage included one speed reduction warning sign.

Preliminary inquiries and checks of local social media revealed the vehicle was part of a convoy of supercars traveling as tourists in Nan province along Highway 1081, Pua–Bo Kluea route, and the accident occurred during the return journey.

Police documented the scene with photographs and sketches as evidence and will investigate the cause of the accident, proceeding with relevant legal actions accordingly.

Police issued a reminder to all road users, especially tourists entering Nan province and using mountainous routes such as Nan–Thung Chang road and Highway 1081 Pua–Bo Kluea, which feature winding roads, steep slopes, and narrow sections. Drivers should adhere to speed limits, exercise extra caution, and ensure vehicle condition is suitable before traveling.

Particularly for high-performance or supercars, drivers should consider the differing road conditions compared to flat roads. Inappropriate speeds can cause loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of severe accidents, impacting both life and property.

Authorities urge all drivers to respect traffic laws, maintain appropriate speeds, and prioritize safety to prevent further losses from recurring incidents.
