Police Ready to Ensure Security and Traffic Control for Early Voting Warn Against Alcohol Sales for 24 Hours

The Royal Thai Police are ready to ensure safety and manage traffic during the early voting period nationwide. They also warn that selling alcohol is prohibited for 24 hours; violators face up to six months imprisonment, a fine up to 10,000 baht, or both.

Today, 31 January 2026, Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police for Security and Director of the Police Election Security and Order Center, stated that Police General Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner of Police, has ordered full security measures for the early voting scheduled for tomorrow (1 February 2026) across the country. Police officers are instructed to strictly follow the Police Election Security and Order Plan (Protecting the Election/66).

Police General Samran emphasized that all police units must support election operations upon request by the Election Commission at all levels and strictly maintain political neutrality among all officers.

He also ordered traffic management to prevent congestion, especially in Bangkok, where over 844,000 people have registered to vote early across all 50 districts. The highest numbers are in Bang Kapi District (Tawanna 2) with 58,683 voters, followed by Chatuchak District (Chandrakasem Rajabhat University) with 51,719 voters. The Metropolitan Police Bureau has been tasked with traffic management to avoid buildup, and the public is urged to stagger their voting times to prevent crowding at polling stations.

Additionally, the Police Election Security and Order Center of the Royal Thai Police reminds the public that selling, distributing, or serving all types of alcohol and alcoholic beverages is prohibited from 6:00 p.m. today (31 January 2026) until 6:00 p.m. tomorrow (1 February 2026). Violations may result in penalties under election law, including imprisonment up to six months, fines up to 10,000 baht, or both.
