Investigators from Bang Khun Thian Police Station arrested a thief who stole brass plates marking the electric train system boundary, then sold them to a scrap shop for 300 baht each, causing significant damage. The Mass Rapid Transit Authority purchased each plate for 1,500 baht.

At 17:00 on 4 Feb 2026, under the direction of Pol. Maj. Gen. Samart Phromchat, Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 9, and Pol. Col. Theerachai Dedkhad, Deputy Commander, Pol. Col. Boonrot Rojaya, Chief of Bang Khun Thian Police Station, Pol. Lt. Col. Jarukittiphat Sukying, Deputy Chief of Investigation, and Pol. Lt. Col. Khajon Thoopprakaysri, Investigation Officer, with the investigative team of Bang Khun Thian Police, jointly arrested Mr. Amnuay Paorohit, 35, a general laborer, on charges of theft or possession of stolen goods and use of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine).

Seized evidence included a motorcycle, a sledgehammer, a blue handbag, square-shaped brass plates from the electric train system boundary, and a drug test result from Bangpakok 8 Hospital.

The arrest took place at a scrap shop on Soi Kanlapaphruek 6, Bang Wa subdistrict, Phasi Charoen district, Bangkok.

Earlier on the morning of 4 Feb, a suspect used a sledgehammer to destroy the electric train system boundary markers and took the brass plates under the electric train tracks on Thoet Thai Road, Bang Wa subdistrict, Phasi Charoen district, Bangkok, before fleeing on a motorcycle.

Mr. Weerachat Simawut, 51, Senior Head of the Rescue and Track Maintenance Department 1-5 Level 10, authorized by the Governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, filed a complaint with the Bang Khun Thian Police Station investigators.

The investigative team examined the crime scene and reviewed CCTV footage of the area and escape route, identifying the suspect as Mr. Amnuay Paorohit. They found him riding the motorcycle used in the theft on Thoet Thai Road and took him into custody for questioning.

Mr. Amnuay confessed that he used his motorcycle to steal at the location under the electric train tracks on Thoet Thai Road, using a sledgehammer kept in a blue handbag to break the boundary markers. He stole a square-shaped brass plate from the electric train system boundary and sold it at a scrap shop on Soi Kanlapaphruek 6.

The suspect then led the team to the scrap shop, where 10 square-shaped brass plates from the electric train system boundary were found. Mr. Amnuay admitted that since mid-January until now, he had stolen these brass plates 2-3 times, totaling over 10 plates, selling them at this scrap shop for 300 baht each (each weighing 2 kilograms, paid at 150 baht per kilogram). The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand originally purchased each plate for 1,500 baht, causing significant damage.

The suspect was then subjected to a drug test and handed over to Bang Khun Thian Police investigators for legal proceedings.
