
The Metropolitan Police Division for Crime Suppression arrested a taxi driver who raped a passenger while she was unconscious after calling a taxi from a bar. The suspect admitted to all charges, claiming he was possessed by some unknown evil spirit.
At 21:00 on 4 Feb 2026, following the directive of Police Lieutenant General Siam Boonsom, Commissioner of Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Police Major General Pallop Aermla, Deputy Commissioner, a crackdown on crime was ordered. Police Colonel Supachai Chaisuwan, Commander of the Crime Suppression Division, instructed Deputy Commander Police Lieutenant Colonel Peerach Wessakosol and Inspector Police Lieutenant Chakri Nareepol to lead Operation Team 1 to arrest Mr. Sangwan Wongwiset, 51, from Udon Thani Province, under an arrest warrant from Phra Khanong Criminal Court No. J.110/2569 dated 3 Feb 2026. Charges include rape of a person unable to resist and nighttime theft. The arrest took place in front of Ratchada Fitness on Ratchadaphisek Road, Ratchadaphisek subdistrict, Din Daeng district, Bangkok.
The case began when the victim, a female university student, sought help from Deputy Commander Peerach Wessakosol. She reported that she had been to a bar in Ratchayothin and on the night of the incident called the mentioned taxi at about 03:00 on 3 Feb 2026. She instructed the driver to head to Ekkamai Road to visit a friend, after which she lost consciousness.
By 07:00 the next morning, she found herself naked at a short-stay motel in Khlong Tan and was certain she had been sexually assaulted. She filed a complaint at Khlong Tan Police Station and underwent a medical examination at the Police Hospital. She requested assistance from the Crime Suppression Division to expedite the arrest of the perpetrator. Following investigation, police identified the suspect's location, reported through the chain of command, and planned for female officers from the Crime Suppression Division to make contact, successfully leading to the suspect's arrest.
During interrogation, Mr. Sangwan confessed fully to the charges, claiming that on the day of the offense, he did not realize which evil spirit had possessed him to commit such acts. He was initially detained and handed over to investigators at Khlong Tan Police Station to proceed with legal action.
