Police Confirm Arrest of Suspect in Hostage Incident at School, Reveal Incident Details

The situation is confirmed under control after a suspect stormed a school in Hat Yai and took hostages. Police acted according to tactical procedures, choosing to arrest the suspect. The suspect's actions began with erratic behavior, attacking officers with an axe, stealing a firearm, then fleeing on a motorcycle to commit the incident within the school.

Today (11 February 2026), Pol. Maj. Gen. Theeradej Thammasuthi, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and deputy spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, stated that Pol. Gen. Kittirath Phanphet, Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, urgently ordered Pol. Lt. Gen. Piyawat Chalermsri, Commander of the 9th Regional Police, to lead operations to control and resolve the incident involving a suspect using a firearm inside Phatong Prathan Kirivat School on Thesaban 31 Road, Phatong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province.

The incident occurred at approximately 16:45 when the suspect fired a gun inside the school, resulting in injuries. The suspect then held some students and teachers hostage inside the school building. Authorities are currently surrounding the area and proceeding carefully according to tactical plans.

The National Police Chief emphasized that all operational steps must prioritize the safety of hostages and the public. He also requested cooperation from the media and public to refrain from live broadcasting or sharing images and information that could affect the authorities' work and the safety of those involved.

Additionally, the public is advised to avoid traveling through routes and areas around Phatong Prathan Kirivat School, Phatong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, until the situation is resolved for everyone's safety.

The Royal Thai Police will provide further updates as appropriate.

Regarding the suspect's conduct, on 11 February 2026 at about 16:30, police received a report of a person exhibiting erratic behavior due to drug use, assaulting individuals in Ban Phru area. During intervention, the suspect resisted and attacked officers with an axe. Police evaded the attacks, after which the suspect broke a police vehicle window, stole a 9mm MPX pistol, then fled on a motorcycle to commit the incident at Phatong Prathan Kirivat School, Phatong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province.
