Initially, no criminal record was found. Authorities are urgently investigating the motive and provided clarification on the incident involving the struggle for a police officer’s firearm.
On 11 February 2026, reporters reported progress on the case of an armed attacker at Patong Prathan Keereewat School on Municipal Road 31, Patong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. Police later surrounded the area and carefully executed tactical plans, ultimately apprehending the suspect, as previously reported.
Recently, Pol. Maj. Gen. Theerasak Chaiyotha, Commander of Songkhla Provincial Police, visited the scene and revealed that the motive behind the incident is still under investigation. He confirmed the attacker has mental health issues and had received treatment at a psychiatric hospital in Songkhla Province last December.
When asked about the case where the attacker seized a police firearm to use during the incident, the Songkhla Police Commander said the suspect used a knife to wound a police officer and struggled to take the weapon. Officers pursued the suspect to the school and coordinated reinforcements to the area.
When asked about the type of firearm seized by the attacker, the Songkhla Police Commander said it was a government-issued 9mm gun. Initially, the suspect was identified as a young person with no prior criminal record, committing this offense for the first time.
Reports indicate that the firearm stolen from police at Thung Lung Police Station was a 9mm Sig Sauer MPX model.
