
The Ministry of Justice is preparing to provide compensation to those injured and deceased in the shooting incident at Patong Prathanakeereewat School.
On 11 Feb 2026 GMT+7, an armed assailant entered Patong Prathanakeereewat School in Patong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, shooting people inside and taking children hostage. Authorities later controlled the situation and apprehended the suspect, who was a local youth with a history of psychiatric treatment related to substance abuse, discharged from hospital in December 2025.
There are three injured individuals: 1. Mrs. Sasiphat Sinsomros, director of Patong Prathanakeereewat School, was shot in the left chest and has since died. 2. A 15-year-old female student was shot in the left waist and was taken to Songklanagarind Hospital; her condition is initially stable. 3. Another female student was injured after jumping from a building to escape and is under medical care at Songklanagarind Hospital.
On 12 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the Ministry of Justice provided an update on assistance following the armed shooting at Patong Prathanakeereewat School, Patong Subdistrict, Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province. The incident caused fatalities and injuries, alarming and distressing the local community.
After the incident, the Ministry of Justice, through the Songkhla Provincial Justice Office, closely monitored the situation at the school, Hat Yai Hospital, and Songklanagarind Hospital. They coordinated with investigators and met with the families of the deceased and injured, totaling three individuals.
The Ministry of Justice will expedite assistance to victims who were not involved in the crime, who are entitled to support under the Victim Compensation and Defendant Reimbursement Act B.E. 2544 (and its amendment B.E. 2559) as follows:
In cases of death:
1. Death compensation of 100,000 baht
2. Funeral expenses of 20,000 baht
3. Loss of support amounting to 40,000 baht
4. Other damages of 40,000 baht
Totaling 200,000 baht
In cases of injury:
1. Medical expenses up to 40,000 baht
2. Rehabilitation expenses up to 20,000 baht
3. Loss of income based on the local minimum wage for up to one year
4. Other damage compensation up to 50,000 baht
These compensations are considered under criteria for severe, shocking incidents that attract public attention, subject to the opinions of investigators and the Songkhla Provincial Subcommittee.
The Ministry of Justice will continue to closely monitor the situation and has instructed affiliated agencies to coordinate systematically to ensure timely and comprehensive support, compensation, and protection of the rights of affected individuals according to the law.
