Police at Bang Mae Nang Police Station have arrested a male prisoner from Nonthaburi Provincial Prison who escaped by breaking out of his cell and climbing the prison wall late at night. Coordination with the Department of Corrections is ongoing for his transfer back.
The Department of Corrections received a report from Nonthaburi Provincial Prison that a prisoner, Mr. Chuchai Sorjin, 40, charged with nighttime vehicle-aided theft to facilitate the crime or escape arrest, escaped. He broke out of his cell, climbed the wall near Tower 2, rappelled down to the parking lot of Hubphayap restaurant near the prison, and left via the Nonthaburi pier at about 02:22 on 13 Feb 2026. Authorities are currently tracking and investigating the cause of his escape.
Currently, the Department of Corrections and Nonthaburi Provincial Prison are coordinating with police and relevant agencies to urgently and continuously track and apprehend the escaped prisoner.
At 16:30 on 14 February 2026, reporters confirmed that police at Bang Mae Nang Police Station successfully arrested Mr. Chuchai Sorjin, 40, the escaped prisoner from Nonthaburi Provincial Prison, after continuous pursuit by authorities.
At present, authorities have detained the prisoner and are coordinating with the Department of Corrections officers, who are en route to take him back for legal procedures.
Reporters said that Pol. Col. Praderm Jitwattanaphirom, Chief of Bang Mae Nang Police Station, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Natthayut Kaewpan, Deputy Superintendent for Crime Suppression, led two patrol officers on routine patrol who arrested Mr. Chuchai Sorjin, 40, the escaped prisoner from Nonthaburi Provincial Prison, who fled around 02:21 on 13 Feb 2026, approximately 1 day and 14 hours prior.
This arrest resulted from the quick thinking of patrol officers who found Mr. Chuchai Sorjin resting inside a village shelter in Mueang District, Nonthaburi Province. They identified and detained him without resistance, then took him to Bang Mae Nang Police Station and coordinated with the Department of Corrections to retrieve him for legal processing.
During questioning, Mr. Chuchai Sorjin claimed he escaped because he missed his father, who he said was ill with kidney disease and living in an alley behind a local temple nearby. He said he fled to check on his father's condition.
However, police disclosed that investigations revealed the prisoner’s father actually resides in Chonburi Province and is indeed suffering from kidney disease, contradicting Mr. Sorjin’s claim that his father lived near the prison.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the escape route and whether anyone assisted or was involved in the escape before handing the prisoner over to the Department of Corrections for further legal custody.
