At 1:00 p.m. on 17 February 2026, Police Sub-Lieutenant Songpol Apiwatnanant, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Thung Song Hong Police Station, received a report of the death of a senior former police officer.

The incident occurred at a residence in a village located in Soi Kaset, Chaeng Watthana Road, Thung Song Hong Subdistrict, Lak Si District, Bangkok. Police Chief Superintendent Yutthasilp Karin, Chief of Thung Song Hong Police Station, went to investigate the scene.

At the scene inside the bedroom, the body of Police Lieutenant General Tawee Thiprat, aged 89, former Metropolitan Police Commander, was found with no signs of a struggle. The deceased's son, Theerawat Thiprat, was the first to discover the body and reported that his father died of a chronic illness and the family had no objections.

Police Lieutenant General Tawee Thiprat was born on 6 October 1937, graduated from Royal Police Cadet Academy Class 16, and retired in 1998. His last position was Commander of the Metropolitan Police. He was a legendary crime-fighter nicknamed "Northern Detective " Former Commander of Phra Nakhon Tai Metropolitan Police, he created many detective successors, including Police Lieutenant General Phanupong Singhara na Ayudhya. He emphasized teamwork and investigations based on evidence.
