Buriram Police Chief Orders Investigation and Replacement of Investigator Over 10% Fee Allegation in Case of Young Girl Killed by Female Teachers Car

Pol. Maj. Gen. Warayut Jan-yiam, Commander of Buriram Provincial Police, has ordered a fact-finding committee to investigate allegations that an investigator demanded a 10% fee from a 1 million baht insurance payout from the mother of Nong Gle, a 6-year-old girl who was fatally struck by a 32-year-old female teacher's car at a school crosswalk. He immediately ordered the investigator to be replaced and warned all police stations not to engage in such practices.

On 19 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the case involves Ms. Kanokwan Prasongsan, a 32-year-old government school teacher from Nakhon Ratchasima Province, who drove a car that hit 6-year-old Kanyavee 'Nong Gle' Sangrai, a grade 1 student at Ban Dong Yo School, Pakieb Subdistrict, Khu Mueang District, Buriram Province. Nong Gle was crossing the school crosswalk when she was fatally struck at 08:00 on 22 Jan 2026 GMT+7, just days before her birthday on 30 Jan.

The incident sparked multiple dramas, starting with the teacher initially agreeing to take responsibility but later refusing to compensate, even daring the family to sue. Consequently, Nong Gle's mother has not received the compulsory insurance payout of 500,000 baht nor the voluntary insurance from the teacher's car of another 500,000 baht, totaling 1,000,000 baht, as the teacher claims to be innocent and that the court must decide.

The issue escalated after Nong Gle’s parents and grandfather appeared on the TV program "Hon Krasae." During questioning by host Noom Kanchai, it was revealed that the investigator instructed the teacher to initially deny responsibility and confess only in court. Relatives also alleged that the investigator demanded a 10% fee of the 1,000,000 baht insurance payout—that is, 100,000 baht—from them.

Recently, Pol. Maj. Gen. Warayut Jan-yiam, Commander of Buriram Provincial Police, commented on the matter, saying that after watching the program, he immediately ordered the investigator to be replaced and a committee to be formed to investigate the facts. Coordination has revealed that the investigator denies demanding such money.

However, this case is one that requires study. Orders have been sent to the heads of all 34 police stations that the primary duty of investigators is to deliver justice fairly to all parties. Investigators must strictly operate within the law and refrain from inappropriate conduct. If such actions occur again, strict disciplinary measures will be enforced. Justice will be ensured for all parties, with no protection given to any individual.
