Court Sentences Am Cyanide to Death for Poisoning Inspector Poo, Sentence Reduced to Life Imprisonment

The criminal court sentenced “Am Cyanide” to death for poisoning “Inspector Poo,” ruling it was premeditated murder. Due to her helpful testimony, the sentence was reduced to life imprisonment. The inspector’s sister expressed distress upon hearing the case details.

On 20 Feb 2026, reporters at the Criminal Court on Ratchadaphisek Road reported that the court held the initial sentencing hearing for Mrs. Sararat Rangsivuthaporn, known as “Am Cyanide,” who was charged with poisoning Police Lieutenant Colonel Nipa Saenjan, or “Inspector Poo,” leading to her death, on charges of murder.

The prosecution alleged that on 1 Apr 2023, during the daytime, the defendant planned and prepared by mixing cyanide poison into food, medicine, or drinks for Inspector Poo to consume. The exact method of administration is unclear, but the amount was sufficient to cause death, constituting premeditated murder to benefit the defendant, who had committed fraud against the victim to conceal her own wrongdoing. The incident occurred in Phra Pathom Chedi Subdistrict, Mueang District, Nakhon Pathom Province.

In the morning, correctional officers brought “Am Cyanide” from prison for the investigation stage. During questioning, she denied the charges before the case was submitted to the court for consideration.

Recently, the presiding judge issued a death sentence for “Am Cyanide.”. However, due to her helpful testimony, the court reduced the sentence to life imprisonment, stating that the murder was premeditated.

Associate Professor Dr. Weerachai confirms clear test results.

Later, Associate Professor Dr. Weerachai stated that the defendant fought the case fully, but he praised the officers of Provincial Police Region 7 and the prosecution witnesses, whose testimonies were consistent. The test results were clear. The court considered whether the victim had gone to the chicken rice restaurant where the incident occurred with the defendant. The defendant claimed she was in Hua Hin, but there was clear evidence of phone calls summoning them, and the restaurant owner testified seeing both at the establishment. The owner also observed that when Police Lieutenant Colonel Nipa went to the restroom, the defendant poured two glasses of water in preparation. Afterward, the victim returned, drank the water, ate, and later passed away.

Associate Professor Dr. Weerachai added that the court examined whether the victim had cyanide in her body. It was confirmed that the defendant had ordered the substance. The court also checked the defendant’s car and home thoroughly. The court believed the killing was to clear online gambling debts. The defendant’s defenses were suspicious and fabricated later. The next court may impose the death penalty as in the previous case or consider new defenses presented by Sararat; these matters will be addressed later.

Sister expresses distress upon hearing the case details.

Mrs. Laddawan Maneewan, sister of Inspector Poo, said she was satisfied with the death sentence, as it matched her family’s expectations. While listening to the verdict and the details, she felt heartbroken that a good person lost her life to a murderer. Her sister trusted Sararat and never expected that trusting someone close would lead to her murder. She personally wished for the death penalty, feeling life imprisonment was too lenient for what Sararat did to her sister.

Meanwhile, Miss Jaruwan Maneewan, another sister of Inspector Poo, said she did not seek compensation because the family did not want money but justice for their sister. Even though justice was served today, the family has not yet come to terms with the loss. She thanked the Royal Thai Police, all officers, witnesses, and Associate Professor Dr. Weerachai for successfully resolving the case.
