Female Teacher Confesses to Causing Death of 6-Year-Old Nong Gle in Car Accident, Initially Denied After Consulting Police to Delay Compensation

A female teacher has confessed to causing the death of 6-year-old Nong Gle, who was hit by her car while crossing a pedestrian crossing. She explained that her initial denial was because she sought advice from the police investigator to buy time to gather money. The insurance company confirmed it is ready to pay compensation within 7 days, while the court will decide on the compensation for the family.

On 20 February 2026, Miss Kanokwan Prasongsan, 32, a government teacher from Nakhon Ratchasima province, who drove the car that struck 6-year-old Kanyavee or Nong Gle Sangrai, a first-grade student at Ban Dong Yo School in Pakiap Subdistrict, Khu Mueang District, Buriram province, while she was crossing the pedestrian crossing to school, resulting in her death. The incident occurred at 08:00 on 22 January, just days before Nong Gle's birthday on 30 January.

She came to give testimony to the new police investigator, admitting her guilt for the fatal accident. Previously, the case caused controversy because the teacher and her relatives denied wrongdoing, resulting in Nong Gle’s mother not receiving the compulsory insurance payment (Motor Insurance Act) of 500,000 baht nor the voluntary insurance from the teacher’s car company of another 500,000 baht, totaling 1 million baht, as it awaited court ruling.

The issue escalated after an appearance on the 'Hone Krasae' program, where Nong Gle's grandfather revealed that the 1 million baht compensation would have to be paid to the police investigator at a rate of 10 percent, or 100,000 baht. This led to police confusion and a rapid response, including forming an investigative committee and immediately replacing the police investigator involved.

Miss Kanokwan Prasongsan, the teacher who drove the car, stated that whenever she met the family at the funeral, she always apologized. Sometimes the relatives might not have heard because they were grieving, but she holds no resentment over the family’s accusations. “I have never failed to apologize,” she said.

She admitted full responsibility now. She explained that her initial denial was based on police advice, as she did not have immediate compensation funds. The investigator advised her to deny initially to buy time to gather the money.

Pol. Col. Khemchat Padkaew, Chief of Khu Mueang Police Station in Buriram, said the investigator has been replaced. Representatives from both insurance companies were summoned together after the teacher’s confession. The police will expedite paperwork for the companies and expect the 1 million baht insurance payment within seven working days, which is not considered delayed. The provincial authorities have set up a committee to investigate the initial 10 percent bribery demand made by the first investigator, and the inquiry will proceed accordingly.

However, compensation has yet to be agreed upon. Nong Gle’s grandfather stated that from now on, the matter will follow legal procedures, with the court deciding on an appropriate compensation amount.
