
Traffic police from the Traffic Division arrested a young officer from the Expressway Authority of Thailand who became enraged after being caught driving under the influence and refusing an alcohol breath test. He slapped a police major, resulting in a split lip. The suspect tested with a blood alcohol level of 126 mg and faces serious charges of assaulting an officer during duty.
At 00:59 on 20 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Police Lieutenant Colonel Phongpol Sombun, Deputy Superintendent performing duties in driver examination with Division 5, Traffic Bureau, reported to Police Lieutenant Charupat Buakaew, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) of Makkasan Police Station. While setting up an alcohol checkpoint in front of the electric train parking lot on Rama 9 Road, Bangkapi Subdistrict, Huai Khwang District, Bangkok, a white Toyota Hilux Revo pickup truck, license plate 6 ขก 3676 Bangkok, driven by Mr. Teerdnai Indee, an officer of the Expressway Authority of Thailand, approached the checkpoint showing signs of intoxication.
Lieutenant Colonel Phongpol ordered the vehicle to stop and requested a breathalyzer test. However, Mr. Teerdnai exited the vehicle and fled, refusing to cooperate with the police officers and physically resisting them.
Mr. Teerdnai slapped Lieutenant Colonel Phongpol on the face and tried to shake him off, causing the officer to suffer a split lip and scraped knees. Lieutenant Colonel Phongpol then radioed for backup to detain Mr. Teerdnai and bring him to the police station. The breathalyzer test later revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 126 milligrams, exceeding the legal limit.
Initially, the investigators charged Mr. Teerdnai with drunk driving and prepared to send him to court. The charge of assaulting an officer during duty is pending further forensic medical examination results to be included in the case file.
