Man Arrested for Assaulting Ice Shop Owner and Firing Gunshot in Bang Bua Thong

Bang Bua Thong Police have arrested a man who aggressively brandished a gun to threaten, slapped, and kicked a 60-year-old ice shop owner. He was apprehended under a warrant for violations of the Firearms Act. The suspect claimed he was cut off by a Myanmar worker's vehicle. After the incident, he was seen firing 5-6 shots into the air in the middle of a busy street.

The case involves Ms. Duangdao Jitsano, 60, owner of an ice shop, and her daughter, Ms. Kritiyana Santawa, 29, who were assaulted by Mr. Theparit Usakul, also known as Thep, aged about 40-45. He brandished a firearm, struck Ms. Duangdao three times in the face, and kicked her once in the stomach. The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on 20 Feb 2026 in front of the ice shop in Village 5, Bang Khu Rat Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi Province.

At 1:00 p.m. on 21 Feb 2026, officers from Bang Bua Thong Police Station, carrying Nonthaburi Provincial Court warrant No. W.235/2569, arrested Mr. Theparit Usakul, 45, under charges of illegal possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm in public without reasonable cause, and discharging a firearm or explosive device in a village and community. The arrest took place at Temrak Samakkhi Temple, Bang Khu Rat Subdistrict, Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi. Officers found a .38-caliber revolver in his shoulder bag along with 11 unidentified bullet casings. He was taken for questioning at Bang Bua Thong Police Station.

CCTV footage from Kork Ma Coffee Shop in Bang Khu Rat Subdistrict captured Mr. Theparit at 6:25 a.m. entering the coffee shop’s parking lot and disappearing from camera view. About two minutes later, 5-6 gunshots were heard.

Mr. Chudet Khiewbang, assistant village headman of Village 5, Bang Khu Rat Subdistrict, said that before the assault on the ice shop owner, the suspect fired a gun into the air. Police later tracked the suspect to a temple pavilion, where he was found sitting. Mr. Chudet then called the police to arrest him.

Mr. Boonsong Ha, 28, manager of Kork Ma Coffee Shop, said that around 6:20 a.m. on 20 Feb 2026, he saw the suspect park in front of the shop and throw a bag of sugar. The suspect reached into his pocket, though Mr. Boonsong did not know if it was a real or fake gun. He then heard about five gunshots, which startled animals at the shop. Reviewing the CCTV, it appeared the suspect fired shots into the air. No one was injured. Mr. Boonsong reported the incident to police, concerned about the safety of customers, including families with children visiting the café.

Mr. Khratchit Thiengthaisong, 50, a local resident who was sitting in the pavilion during the arrest, said he saw the suspect arrive around 12:30 p.m., sitting alone and speaking normally. The suspect said he had brought a firearm to be repaired locally. Police then came and arrested him. Mr. Khratchit was unaware of the full situation.

After the arrest, police took the suspect for questioning at the Bang Bua Thong Police investigative room before handing him over to prosecutors for further legal proceedings.

According to reports, during parts of the arrest, Mr. Theparit claimed he assaulted the 60-year-old ice shop owner because a Myanmar worker who was his subordinate had cut him off while driving, prompting him to confront the issue.
