Police Order Heightened Security Measures at Key Sites to Assist Thai Nationals Returning from the Middle East

The National Police Chief has ordered an increase in security measures and cooperation to assist Thai nationals returning from the Middle East. Authorities will closely monitor, verify, and watch information on all social media channels to prevent fake news or misinformation.

On 1 March 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Yingyos Thepjumnong, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson, stated that due to tensions in the Middle East and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's directive for urgent 24-hour assistance to Thai nationals there, the Royal Thai Police has responded accordingly. National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanpetch promptly instructed all units to prevent and suppress criminal acts, maintain public order, national security, and international relations effectively and smoothly.

The National Police Chief has ordered heightened security for individuals, key sites, and government offices. Coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, military branches, and relevant agencies is ongoing to monitor the situation and investigate foreign individuals who might commit crimes linked to incidents or affect national security, especially in watchlist countries. Patrols and checkpoints at border crossings, natural routes, and transit points have been intensified. Preparations at airports are underway to handle the return of Thai nationals, including emergency plans to manage overcrowding. Coordination with related agencies ensures assistance for tourists in Thailand via the Tourist Police hotline 1155 and provision of interpreters for communication support.

Additionally, the National Police Chief has ordered information sharing with foreign countries, member states, Interpol, origin country police units, and consular channels (police attachés/diplomatic police) to closely coordinate relevant information. Authorities are also monitoring and verifying social media information across all platforms to prevent fake news that might cause panic, spread fear, or involve criminal acts or cybercrime. Law enforcement will act to block illegal information affecting national security or international relations. The National Police Operations Center will monitor the situation 24 hours a day.
