The son of Mayor Yui of Nasar Subdistrict Municipality surrendered, admitting to shooting dead Village Headman Kung. He said he acted in self-defense after Kung attacked his father and tried to set a truck on fire. Police are focusing on investigating the evidence at the scene to determine whether the self-defense exceeded necessary force, as the shot struck the left chest, severing the heart's main artery.
Update on the case involving Pornchai Siriwan, known as Village Headman Kung, age 55, headman of Village No. 2, Nasar Subdistrict: He entered the home and shot Sampan Somchu, 54, a villager, who was asleep on his bed and died there. The cause was a drug-induced paranoia; he suspected Sampan of helping his wife escape. Pornchai then rode a motorcycle to the residence of Phayong Sanguantoi, also known as Mayor Yui, age 55, mayor of Nasar Subdistrict, and fired repeatedly at him but missed. Pornchai then attempted to set fire to a ten-wheeler truck but was shot dead by an unknown gunman on the spot. This happened this morning (2 Mar 2026). The autopsy revealed Pornchai had a gunshot wound to the left chest that cut the heart's main artery and was found with 10 methamphetamine pills. Authorities have preserved the evidence as previously reported.
Recently, Phayong, or Mayor Yui, brought his son Theeraphat, also known as Yim, age 27, to surrender to police along with the 9 mm pistol used in the shooting.
Theeraphat confessed that while he was at home, he heard multiple gunshots and ran out to see Pornchai shooting his father and setting fire to a truck in the garage. He quickly retrieved a gun from the house and fired one shot at Pornchai, saying he did so solely in self-defense. He explained that if he had not fired back, Pornchai might have burned the truck and potentially shot others inside the house, so he fired to protect himself and his family.
The gun in question is a registered firearm with a license issued in the name of Phayong, or Mayor Yui, Theeraphat's father.
Authorities have initially detained Theeraphat for detailed questioning to consider charges and proceed legally, focusing on whether the act constituted "self-defense beyond necessary force."
According to reports, Pol. Col. Natthawut Thongthip, deputy commander of Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Police, who arrived at the scene and investigated, reviewed CCTV footage from the mayor’s house. The footage shows the village headman riding a motorcycle in, then opening fire on Mayor Phayong (Mayor Yui). The mayor ran and fell, and the village headman also fell, allowing Mayor Yui to escape.
