Guardians brought three teenagers to report to Nong Ki Police Station in Buriram after they were chased and shot at by a pickup truck, which then rammed their motorcycle causing them to fall. The suspects also attempted to run over them, resulting in injuries. The victims fear the case will stall, but police insist they are not neglecting the investigation.
On 4 Mar 2026, lawyer Suradet Uermkeb, accompanied by guardians, brought Dew, 18, New, 17, and M, 17, who were chased and shot at by a group of six teenagers aged 16-18 in a pickup truck. The truck rammed the motorcycle carrying the three after they returned from a junior graduation event. The crash injured them, including a broken leg and body wounds. The incident occurred in the evening of 27 Feb on Ban Yoei Prasat-Nong Tad Dam Road, Yoei Prasat Subdistrict, Nong Ki District, Buriram. They gave statements to investigators at Nong Ki Police Station and sought justice from Police Colonel Natee Sukuna, the station chief, fearing the case would not progress or be fairly handled, as nearly a week had passed without any suspects being arrested.
After taking statements from the injured, Police Lieutenant Manop Aksornarong, the investigating officer at Nong Ki Police Station, along with the investigation team, visited the crime scene. They had the victims point out where the assault occurred to support the case file. They also interviewed local witnesses to gather additional clues to track down and interrogate the suspects for legal proceedings.
When asked, Dew, 18, who has a broken leg, said that on the day of the incident he and about 7-8 friends rode motorcycles to attend the junior graduation event at a high school in Nong Ki district. They had no problems with anyone. After leaving the school, they stopped to hang out at Prasat Thong Beach. Around 4 p.m., they left the beach to return home.
As they rode out of the beach area, they noticed a group of youths they did not know sitting at a roadside stall eating papaya salad, appearing to pull out a gun towards them. They quickly left. Then, a pickup truck carrying about 6-7 youths chased them. At the scene of the incident, they heard gunshots and the truck rammed the motorcycle carrying the three of them, causing the crash and injuries. The truck then tried to run them over again, but fortunately the engine stalled. They took that moment to flee through a sugarcane field to get help and called the police. When they returned to the scene, they found the motorcycle thrown into a water canal. Dew confirmed he did not know or have any conflict with the group.
M, another injured party, said he was riding on the same motorcycle with Dew and New. He said he had no prior issues with the youths involved but was unsure if others in the group had conflicts. He described the behavior of the youths chasing them, shooting, and ramming their vehicle as seemingly intending to cause fatal harm. He hopes authorities will apprehend and prosecute the suspects.
Napa, the mother of one of the injured, said the violent behavior and the injuries her son and his friends sustained after being chased and almost run over were unacceptable. She said her son confirmed they had no conflicts, but to be attacked to this extent was extreme. She urged the authorities to prosecute the perpetrators under the law and appealed to the police to ensure justice for the victims.
Police Colonel Natee Sukuna, chief of Nong Ki Police Station, assured that justice would be served for all parties. Police must follow procedural steps and are not delaying the investigation. Initially, they must take statements from victims and injured parties, then gather evidence to track down suspects for questioning and prosecution. If the victims and suspects are minors, the process must be careful and involve multidisciplinary experts. He affirmed that police are not neglecting the case.
Meanwhile, police have seized the pickup truck involved, which belongs to the guardian of one of the suspects. The guardian has promised to bring the youth to surrender to authorities voluntarily.
