In Chonburi, a man wielding a samurai sword slashed the head of a motorcycle mechanic, causing a severe head wound and nearly severing his ear. He admitted to using methamphetamine and was unhappy with the brake pad replacement, which did not fix the braking issue.
At 16:30 on 4 March 2026, Lt. Col. Yongyut Hwannuea, Deputy Superintendent of Investigations at Bang Lamung Police Station, along with Lt. Col. Wutipong Kasa and the investigative team, arrested Mr. Anucha Boonthavorn, 53, also known as Bangcha, seizing a roughly one-meter-long samurai sword. He had used this weapon to slash the head of an employee of his tenant, who was severely injured.
The incident traces back to around 22:30 on 2 March, when Mr. Anucha, or Bangcha, confronted Mr. Noparit Saemuang, 24, a motorcycle mechanic, at a row house in Soi Nong Yai 8, Village 6, Na Kluea Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Dissatisfied with the motorcycle repair, specifically the brake pad replacement, the two had a heated argument. As Mr. Noparit tried to retreat into his room, Mr. Anucha forced his way in and slashed Mr. Noparit's head, causing a large laceration on the left side that required 27 stitches. The blade also nearly severed his ear.
Additionally, Mr. Anucha owns the land that Mr. Noparit's employer rents to operate the motorcycle repair shop. On the following day (3 March) at about 20:30, Mr. Anucha drove a Nissan NV pickup truck into the repair shop and living quarters, verbally confronting the owner while brandishing the samurai sword. He threatened to close the shop and told them to file a complaint if they wanted to keep it open. He also threatened to terminate the lease and evict the repair shop. CCTV footage clearly captured Mr. Anucha's threatening behavior.
Police investigators gathered information and evidence before arresting Mr. Anucha and confiscating the samurai sword used in the attack. During questioning, he confessed to the assault, stating he was upset that the injured man had not repaired his son's motorcycle properly. He had brought the bike for brake pad replacement, but when he picked it up, the brakes failed and the ride was rough. He confronted the injured man, who responded with a scowl and insulted him. In anger, Mr. Anucha used the sword, striking with the blunt edge on the mechanic's head. He also admitted to using methamphetamine, which impaired his judgment. His threats to evict the repair shop stemmed from his anger.
The injured man, Mr. Noparit Saemuang, 24, told reporters that he had no prior conflicts with the attacker. They had discussed the motorcycle repair issues, but he did not expect Mr. Anucha to hold a grudge and attack him with a sword, causing injury.
Police are preparing to file charges against Mr. Anucha for assault and illegal use of a Category 1 narcotic (methamphetamine). The case will be forwarded to prosecutors for legal action.
