
A former forestry officer shot the head of the Salak Phra-Erawan Fire Control Station, seriously injuring him. The Director-General of the Department of National Parks donated blood to assist in life-saving surgery after the victim suffered severe blood loss.
On 6 March 2026, an assailant shot Warun Jansawang, 31, head of the Salak Phra-Erawan Fire Control Station and assistant head of Erawan National Park. He sustained serious injuries near the Kwae Yai River, Village 6, Chong Sadao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province, as previously reported.
Before the incident, Warun was patrolling near the Kwae Yai River in Village 6, Chong Sadao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province, when he found Somsak Puangkul, 57, a former forestry officer and the suspect, illegally clearing forest land. Warun intervened to stop him, leading to a verbal altercation. Warun invited Somsak to discuss the matter at Lat Ya Police Station, but Somsak refused, saying he wanted to return home. When Warun attempted to detain him, Somsak fired a gun, hitting Warun in the left front abdomen with a .38 caliber bullet.
Warun was then rushed to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital for life-saving treatment but remained in critical condition. Doctors found the bullet lodged inside, with significant blood loss. They performed surgery to stitch the wound and stop bleeding but had not yet removed the bullet.
At 08:30 on 6 March 2026, Atthaphon Charoenchansa, Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, went to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital to donate blood to help Warun, who needed the blood for surgery to remove the bullet.
Regarding the case, Police Colonel Sitthipong Sangsaeng, Chief of Lat Ya Police Station, revealed that investigators have questioned the suspect and charged him with two counts: attempted murder of an official and violations of the Firearms Act, including carrying and possessing firearms, and discharging a firearm in public without permission.
At 10:30, Lat Ya police officers took the suspect to reenact the shooting at the crime scene. The investigation team secured the area and conducted the reenactment, which lasted 20 minutes, on the road where the shooting occurred. The suspect demonstrated the shooting, fleeing, and pursuit before being returned to Lat Ya Police Station.
