Suspect Shoots Forest Fire Chief at Salak Phra Fire Control Unit Injured in Kanchanaburi, Minister Coordinates Police Hunt

An incident occurred in Kanchanaburi where a suspect, who is a former offender, shot and injured the head of the Salak Phra Forest Fire Control Unit. The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment has coordinated with police to pursue the suspect.

On 5 Mar 2026 GMT+7, reporters reported that the Facebook page "Department of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation" posted a message stating, "Urgent! The head of the Salak Phra Forest Fire Control Unit in Kanchanaburi was shot and injured by a former offender. The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment has ordered police coordination to capture the suspect."

According to reports, at approximately 15:00, Warun Jansawang, head of the Salak Phra–Erawan Forest Fire Control Station and assistant head of Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi, was shot and injured by an unknown number of assailants using a firearm. The bullet struck his left rib area. The incident occurred near Pong Pad Bridge, Village No. 1, Ban Pak Khlong, Chong Sadao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Kanchanaburi Province.

Initially, rescue workers from the Pitak Kanchan Foundation urgently transported the injured to Phaholpolpayuhasena Hospital for treatment.

Police are currently at the scene collecting evidence and are expediting efforts to apprehend the suspect to proceed with legal action.
