Perpetrators caused disruption in Si Sakhon District, Narathiwat by secretly planting an improvised explosive device inside a trash bin in front of a commercial building late at night. The explosion damaged the building and roof but fortunately caused no injuries. Authorities rushed to inspect the scene, collect evidence, and expedite the search for the culprits.
At approximately 01:00 on 9 March 2026, Police Colonel Kanit Tengting, Chief of Si Sakhon Police Station, received reports of an explosion in front of a pet food store at No. 35, Village No. 1, Si Sakhon Subdistrict, Si Sakhon District, Narathiwat Province. He coordinated with police and security forces to promptly investigate the scene.
At the scene, officers found debris scattered across the road and sidewalk. Evidence photos showed a large blue plastic bin that had been deformed and partially shattered by the blast pressure. Additionally, trash and explosive materials were scattered widely. The explosion also visibly damaged the building’s front door structure and the roof awning. Armored vehicles guarded the area, illuminating the site for thorough inspection following the blast.
Initial investigations revealed the bomb was an improvised explosive device set with a timer for 01:00. The perpetrators concealed it inside the trash bin placed in front of the target shop, aiming to create unrest during the late night. Fortunately, no one was passing by or resting near the building at the time, so there were no injuries or fatalities.
Authorities have cordoned off the area, awaiting the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and forensic experts to collect bomb fragments and electrical circuit evidence. This is to link the incident to local insurgent groups. They have also ordered a review of all nearby CCTV footage to trace the suspects’ escape route and bring them to justice.
