Yala - Assailants attacked and shot the village chief inspector dead in front of his residence in Raman District before stealing two government-owned firearms—a 9mm pistol and an M16 rifle—and fleeing. Authorities are rushing to investigate.
At approximately 21:00 on 8 March 2026, the radio center of Jakwa Police Station in Raman District, Yala Province, received a report from the Village Security Patrol (Chor Ror Bor) of a shooting incident in front of house number 2/1, Baan Pulasano, Village No. 3, Jakwa Subdistrict, Raman District, Yala, resulting in a person seriously injured.
The victim was later identified as Mr. Royali Hama, age 57, who served as the village chief inspector in the area. After the incident, villagers promptly took him to the emergency room at Raman Hospital.
Upon receiving the report, Mr. Kittiphon Premratchanon, the District Chief of Raman, together with Police Lieutenant Colonel Nipon Insuwan, the chief inspector of Jakwa Police Station, along with police, military, and local administrative officials, rushed to the scene and followed up on developments at Raman Hospital.
When officials arrived at the emergency room, doctors and nurses were providing intensive care. However, due to severe gunshot wounds, the victim could not survive and passed away shortly thereafter.
Initial inquiries revealed that about three assailants wearing hats to conceal their faces entered from the rear of the house carrying unidentified firearms. They approached Mr. Royali while he was resting outside his home and fired multiple shots, hitting him severely in the face. After the victim collapsed in a pool of blood, the attackers searched the house for valuables and took a 9mm pistol and an M16 rifle, both government-issued, before fleeing quickly using their knowledge of the area.
Currently, police are urgently examining evidence at the scene and interviewing nearby witnesses to determine whether this incident was personal or linked to local unrest. They are also intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspects and bring them to justice.
