Case update: Mr. Panuwat Rintrawut, 31, from Khon Kaen province, the brutal brother-in-law who strangled"Younger sister-in-law"a 22-year-old waitress who died in a rented house in Hang Dong district, Chiang Mai province. Previously, he testified to the police but was overwhelmed by evidence after a delivery rider reported seeing Mr. Panuwat, also known as Pond, running out from behind the residence to pay for an order placed by Praew, as previously reported.
On 9 Mar 2026 GMT+7 at Hang Dong police station, reporters spoke with Police Colonel Jakriyooth Chotiwachirapong, chief of Hang Dong police. He said the suspect, Mr. Panuwat, will not be detained today because the victim’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 17 Pro Max remain missing. Additionally, a 2-baht gold necklace reportedly missing, according to the victim’s relatives, is under investigation. Police plan to interview Mr. Panuwat again to track down the missing items and return them to the family. Currently, the suspect is stressed and concerned about his family while in custody, and no family visits have been reported.
Meanwhile, Praew’s family has returned to their hometown in Laowu village, Wiang Haeng district, preparing funeral rites to receive her ashes for religious ceremonies according to the Lisu ethnic tradition. The atmosphere at Praew’s home is sorrowful, with family, relatives, and neighbors gathering to console her parents.
The family will collect Praew’s body from the hospital on 11 March 2026 GMT+7. Afterward, they will cremate her at Sri Mueang Muang Temple in San Sai district, then proceed with religious ceremonies and burial in their hometown.
