19-Year-Old Mentally Ill Man Attacks Mother and Daughter, Then Flees to Car Wash to Clean Up

A 19-year-old mentally ill man violently broke into a home and slashed a mother and her daughter severely. The mother required 77 stitches, and the daughter 66. After the attack, he fled to a car wash to clean himself. The suspect's father has now brought him to surrender.

At 04:30 today (11 Mar), Pol. Col. Boonchoen Limprajuabpong, Superintendent of Sichon Police Station, Nakhon Si Thammarat, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Theerapol Pumchai, Deputy Superintendent, police officers, and rescue workers from Tai Tek Tung Foundation, went to the scene to assist the two injured victims. They had been attacked by a mentally ill assailant who broke down the front door and bedroom door, slashing them with a machete. The incident occurred at a house in Village 4, Si Kit Subdistrict, Sichon District, Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Initial investigation found the two injured victims, mother Janrayaporn, 43, and daughter Kamolwan, 16, had multiple machete wounds all over their bodies and were severely injured. Blood splattered throughout the bedroom and covered their bodies. Rescue workers transported the pair to Sichon Hospital, where doctors urgently treated them until their conditions stabilized. The mother required 77 stitches and the daughter 66.

The suspect was identified as 19-year-old Phanupong, from the same village. After the attack, he fled. Pol. Col. Boonchoen Limprajuabpong ordered a rapid deployment of forces to track and apprehend him. Later, relatives brought Phanupong to surrender.

During questioning, it was learned that Phanupong is mentally ill with brain-related symptoms and must take daily medication to regulate his brain function. Before the attack, the mother and daughter were asleep in their bedroom when Phanupong broke down their front and bedroom doors with a machete, attacking the mother without warning. The daughter tried to intervene but was also slashed. The daughter struggled to turn on the light and saw the attacker’s face, then fled the house in shock. After the assault, Phanupong rode a motorcycle to an automatic car wash in the village, not far from the scene, to clean himself.

Later, Phanupong’s father brought him to surrender to Pol. Col. Boonchoen Limprajuabpong at Sichon Police Station. Phanupong confessed, and police are holding him for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Phanupong’s history shows he was heavily addicted to drugs but has since quit. Over the past two years, he has been mentally ill and required daily medication to manage his condition, until the recent violent incident.

Subsequently, Somchai Leelanoy, Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, was informed and ordered Ms. Pornpavee Uraisawat, Provincial Social Development and Human Security Officer, along with Mr. Surin Arkomwech, Head of the Provincial Child and Family Shelter, Mr. Weerasak Buasri, Sichon District Chief, Pol. Col. Boonchoen Limprajuabpong, and Mr. Atporn Muangmusit, Chief of Si Kit Subdistrict Administrative Organization, to visit and assist the injured mother and daughter.
