Ink and Husband Visit Thaksin, Report Father Is Well, No Political Discussion

On 12 March 2016 at 09:45 at Klong Prem Central Prison on Ngamwongwan Road, Lat Yao Subdistrict, Chatuchak District, Bangkok, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatraformer Prime Ministeralong with Mr. Pitak Suksawat, her spouse, visited Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, former Prime Minister, marking their 47th visit.

Later, at 10:35, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatraformer Prime Minister,and Mr. Pitak Suksawat, her husband, left the prison after their visit.

When asked by reporters about the visit, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra said her father is doing well. Regarding his insomnia, he is improving. They did not discuss the unrest in the Middle East or any political matters. Today's conversation focused on his legal case.

When asked how the family feels about Thaksin's expected release in two months, Ms. Paethongtarn said they wish for his release soon. The parole application documents have been entrusted to their lawyer.

Afterwards, Ms. Paethongtarn and Mr. Pitak greeted former classmates from Montfort College, Chiang Mai, class of Montfort 1965, and Red Shirt supporters who came to encourage Mr. Thaksin. The Red Shirts told Ms. Paethongtarn,that on the night of 10 May 2016, they plan to camp overnight outside the prison to await Mr. Thaksin's release on the morning of 11 May 2016.

Lawyer Winyat Chatmontri, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra's personal attorney, revealed that the parole documents have been submitted. The next step is the Department of Corrections' consideration. He refrained from further comment but said if the parole meets criteria and is approved, release will occur on 11 May 2016 around 07:00.

"Regarding defamation lawsuits against those who have slanderedMr. Thaksin Shinawatra,the lawyers have already taken action. Those who spread false news aiming for likes or political gain must be held accountable. We focus on suing the main offenders, although some citizens have also posted defamatory content with ill intent. We believe it is better to select key targets rather than sue everyone," said Mr. Winyat.
