Police Warn of Scams Exploiting Energy Crisis with Fake Free Fuel and Discount Offers

The Royal Thai Police warn that criminals are exploiting the energy situation by sending links falsely offering free fuel top-up rights or special discounts, deceiving the public into clicking fake links and submitting personal information.

On 16 March 2026, Pol. Maj. Gen. Siriwat Deepho, Deputy Spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, stated that Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the National Police Chief, is concerned for the public regarding online threats. Scammers are taking advantage of the international conflict and war situation, which has caused energy price worries. They send SMS or advertise via social media, impersonating well-known oil companies to distribute fake free fuel coupons or special discount offers, tricking people into clicking fake links and submitting personal data, which leads to installing fake applications and causing significant damage.

Therefore, the Royal Thai Police warn the public to raise awareness and recognize scammers' tricks as follows:

- “Do not click links from SMS or messages of uncertain origin.” Scammers often use enticing offers such as “Receive 1,000 baht free fuel top-up” to rush victims into decisions. If you receive such messages, assume the link is dangerous and may lead to installing fake applications.

- “Do not enter personal or financial information on unknown websites.” If you have clicked a link, do not provide your ID card number, passwords, credit card details, or OTP codes, as scammers may misuse this information.

- “Verify promotions only through official channels.” If you see campaigns offering free fuel or special discounts, contact the oil company’s hotline or check their official website or application before deciding to participate.

If the public encounters or suffers damage from such scams, they can report to the hotline at 1441 or file a complaint online at thaipoliceonline.go.th, available 24 hours a day.
