Court Sentences Tokyo Girl and Medium to 6 Months Imprisonment Without Suspension Over SEA Games ROV Cheating Case

Pathumwan District Court sentenced former esports athlete “Tokyo Girl” and an accomplice to 6 months imprisonment each without suspension in the SEA Games ROV cheating case. After confessing, their sentences were reduced to 3 months each and converted to detention.

At 09:30 on 17 March 2026 GMT+7 at Pathumwan District Court, the court heard the case where the Public Prosecutor’s Office, Branch 6 (Pathumwan), charged Ms. Napat Warasin, known as Tokyo Girl, aged 29, former national esports athlete, and Mr. Chaiyo, known as Cheerio, aged 23, a well-known gamer, as defendants 1 and 2. They were charged with “knowingly circumventing computer access control measures specifically set by others and improperly disclosing such information in a way likely to cause damage, and unauthorized access to protected computer data” during the 33rd SEA Games hosted by Thailand on 15 December 2022.

Both defendants pleaded guilty and were released on bail.

The court found both defendants guilty as charged, sentencing each to 6 months imprisonment without suspension, considering their actions seriously harmed the credibility of esports athlete selection and damaged the nation’s reputation. Due to their guilty pleas, the court mitigated the sentence by half, resulting in 3 months imprisonment each, which was converted to 3 months detention.

Subsequently, the court granted provisional release during the appeal process for Ms. Napat and Mr. Chaiyo, with bail set at 24,000 baht without additional conditions.
