
The Appeals Court allowed the first and second defendants in the 10 million baht bribery case involving the former Consul General of Nauru to be released on bail without conditions, setting bail at 400,000 baht each.
On 17 Mar 2024 GMT+7, the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct sentenced Police Lieutenant Narongdet Pitakprachan to 14 years in prison; Mr. Trin Phichitkunjorn, former Director of Special Case Screening and Intelligence Division, to 10 years and 16 months; Mr. Anan Silakot, former Special Case Officer, to 4 years and 8 months; and Sergeant Montree Huadcharoen to 2 years. They were convicted of misconduct for allowing the release of 11 Chinese suspects who were able to escape abroad after officers from the DSI and police raided the former Consul General of Nauru's residence in the Thung Maha Mek area.
Afterward, all four defendants filed petitions requesting temporary release during their appeals. The court granted temporary release to the third and fourth defendants on 17 Mar 2024 GMT+7, and forwarded the petitions of the first and second defendants to the Appeals Court to decide on bail.
On 18 Mar 2024 GMT+7, the Appeals Court ordered the release on bail of the first and second defendants, setting bail at 400,000 baht each without any conditions.
