At 01:00 on 20 March 2026 GMT+7, attackers using an unknown type and caliber of firearm ambushed the vehicle of Kamolsak Leewamo, Member of Parliament for Narathiwat from the Prachachart Party, near his residence in Bajoh Subdistrict, Bajoh District, Narathiwat Province, resulting in injuries.Causingtwo severe injuries among the driver and an escort, as previously reported.Breaking: Attackers opened fire on Narathiwat MP Kamolsak Leewamo's vehicle; escort and driver seriously injured.)
Most recently, the Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Front hasreportedan update on the incident, stating that initial investigations found the attackers used a white four-door pickup truck as their vehicle before ambushing a black Toyota Alphard. The attack occurred as the MP was returning from official duties, resulting in two seriously injured passengers: 55-year-old driver Uchalum Kole and 43-year-old police sergeant Harirak Himmina, a police escort.
After the incident, local authorities promptly intervened and provided assistance, quickly transporting the injured to a nearby hospital. Security forces have since tightened area security, while Kamolsak Leewamo remains safe.
The attackers' conduct reflects an intent to incite unrest and assassinate, disregarding the impact on civilians and officials, highlighting the use of violence that society cannot accept.
Currently, police and security forces have cordoned off the crime scene, are thoroughly examining evidence, and are expediting efforts to apprehend the perpetrators for legal action. They have also enhanced safety measures for local residents continuously.
