Found: Six-Wheel Truck Crashes Through Checkpoint, Hits Police Motorcycle, Officer Dies Driver Still at Large

A six-wheel truck broke through a checkpoint, sideswiping a police motorcycle and crashing into a utility pole, killing Police Senior Sergeant Major (Sgt. Maj.) Chaiwat. The driver fled the scene but sent a message apologizing to his mother, claiming he did not intend the accident and fled due to fear of illegal beer and cigarettes in the vehicle.

On 20 March 2026,police officersset up a crime prevention checkpoint beneath the Kanchanaphisek overpass in Bueng Yitho Subdistrict, Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani Province. They signaled a six-wheel truck to stop for inspection, but the driver accelerated and fled onto Kanchanaphisek Outer Ring Road. Police Corporal Kowit Jaichin, 40, head of the Prevention and Suppression Unit of Thanyaburi Police Station, pursued on a patrol motorcycle with Police Senior Sergeant Major Chaiwat Kongudom, 25, also from the same unit, riding as passenger. The truck sideswiped their motorcycle causing the motorcycle to lose control and crash into a utility pole, killing Sgt. Maj. Chaiwat. Latest developmentsThe investigative team of Thanyaburi Police Stationreviewed CCTV footage and identified the truckparked beside a warehouseat a company about 2 kilometers from the scene. They identified the driver as Suphot Chaiyo, 28, an employee and driver of the truck, who lives in quarters behind the company.

Police officerssearched the premises but did not find Suphot. They did, however, encounter Mrs. Rinda, 46, Suphot's mother, who spoke tothe policeand said she had communicatedvia chatwith her son, who admitted that on the day of the incident he drove the truck to refuel. On the way back to his residence, he encountered the checkpoint. Afraid because the truck contained illegal beer and cigarettes, he panicked and fled when police pursued him. He said he did not intend to cause an accident. After parking the truck and abandoning it, he fled. Mrs. Rindaadded that the policehad urged her son to surrender and face the charges.She furtherrevealed she advised her son to turn himself in to fight the case.
