Brazen Attack: Suspect Shoots Detective Officer Dead Outside Residence in Yala Province

A brazen attack occurred in Yala Province where a suspect opened fire. Sgt. Imrom Samori.A detective officer from the Tase Police Station was shot outside his home while preparing a venue.He was with his family.He was severely wounded and later died. Authorities are urgently seeking the suspect.

At approximately 21:09 on 20 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Lam Mai Police Radio Center received a report of a police officer critically wounded by gunfire in front of a residence in Village No. 2, Ban Nam Yen, Lam Mai Subdistrict, Mueang District, Yala Province.

After receiving the report, Mr. Kongsakol Chantrach, Governor of Yala Province, Mr. Wimutti Anammani, District Chief of Mueang, and Police Colonel Khosit Benjakul, Chief of Lam Mai Police Station, led police, military, and administrative officers to the scene. They coordinated with local rescue units to provide emergency aid and urgently transported the injured officer to Yala Central Hospital's emergency room.

The injured officer was identified as Sgt. Imrom Samori, 28, a detective squad leader from Tase Police Station, Mueang Yala District. He suffered a gunshot wound to the head, was in critical condition, and later died despite doctors’ full efforts to save him.

Preliminary investigation revealed that before the incident, Sgt. Imrom was having iftar with his family in preparation for the upcoming Hari Raya celebration. After eating, he went outside his home to prepare the venue.He was with his family.He was resting on a motorcycle when unknown assailants shot him forcefully in the head, causing him to collapse in a pool of blood.

After the shooting, the victim’s brother, who was also a police officer inside the house, returned fire in self-defense. The assailants escaped amid the chaos.

Authorities secured the crime scene awaiting forensic teams from the 10th Forensic Center to conduct a detailed investigation and collect evidence. They are actively pursuing the suspects for prosecution under the law.

Security officials initially suspect the attack was carried out by insurgent groups aiming to demonstrate their operational capability during the last 10 days of Ramadan and prior to the Hari Raya Eid al-Fitr festival.

Security measures in the area have been tightened, and efforts continue to trace the suspects to prevent further incidents.
