The incident occurred on Kanchanaphisek Road (No. 9) near Thanyaburi checkpoint at kilometer 26, Pathum Thani Province, in the evening of 20 March, as previously reported.

Update on 21 March 2026 at 09:00, investigators took custody of both involved vehicles: the police shield motorcycle 31612 and the six-wheeled truck,a six-wheelerwhite ISUZU truck with Pathum Thani license plates, to store at Lam Luk Ka Police Station.

Sergeant Major Thongchai Boonkaen, head of the Crime Division at Thanyaburi Police Station (assisting investigation), revealed that he was very close to the deceased, who was his senior and mentor since he started training at Thanyaburi Police Station. Later, at 12:00 on the same day, Police Lieutenant Colonel Thawatchai Rattanapahu, deputy head of investigations at Thanyaburi Police Station, along with the investigative team, arrested Suphot "Lek" Chaiyo, 29, the truck driver, under an arrest warrant from Thanyaburi Provincial Court for murder and attempted murder of a police officer. He was apprehended at a worker's residence in Village No. 15, Bueng Kham Phroi Subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani Province.

While officers were reading the warrant, Suphot resisted by attempting to flee, forcing officers to quickly restrain and handcuff him. During custody, he continued to shout his innocence, claiming the checkpoint was not properly established according to regulations. Officers had to carry him into a pickup truck to transport him to Lam Luk Ka Police Station for interrogation.

Suphot confessed to driving the truck on the day of the incident, claiming that while returning to the company, he felt unsafe seeing the checkpoint due to unclear signage, so he decided to flee toward the factory. He said he braked hard, causing the rear of the truck to skid uncontrollably and was unaware when police began pursuing him, alleging they tried to drive to avoid being seen by him.

However, Pol. Maj. Gen. Peeraphon Chotiksethien, chief of Pathum Thani Provincial Police, stated he ordered four serious charges: murder and attempted murder of an officer while on duty, assaulting and resisting officers with violence, and property damage.

The body of Sergeant Major Chaiwat Kongudom, the deceased officer, will be laid in state for one night at Khian Khet Temple, Pathum Thani Province, before being transported to his hometown in Kuchinarai District, Kalasin Province, for religious funeral rites.
