Authorities traced and captured a man who attempted to shoot his ex-wife in the head, firing three times but the gun did not discharge. Good Samaritans intervened just in time. After the incident, he fled from Nakhon Phanom to hide at his new wife's home in Chonburi but was eventually arrested.
On 23 March 2026, the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), through the Crime Suppression Division under the command of Pol. Lt. Gen. Natsak Sakchawanasai, ordered Pol. Maj. Gen. Suwat Sangnum and Pol. Maj. Gen. Sophon Saraphat, deputy commanders, along with relevant officers, to jointly arrest Mr. Weerayut, 39, the suspect wanted under a warrant from Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court No. J54/2569 dated 19 February 2026 (Sri Songkhram Police Station). He is accused of "attempted intentional murder with a firearm or ammunition without permission."
The arrest was made on the roadside in front of a rental room opposite a restaurant in Nong Plalai Alley, Nong Plalai Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.
The case dates back to January 2026, when Ms. Wasana, the victim, reported to Sri Songkhram Police Station that the suspect, Mr. Weerayut or Yut, her ex-husband, broke into the scene in Na Duea Subdistrict, Sri Songkhram District, Nakhon Phanom Province, and physically assaulted her by pulling her head. He then pointed a handgun at her head at close range and attempted to fire 2-3 times consecutively.
However, at the critical moment, a good Samaritan nearby intervened by blocking the gun away from Ms. Wasana’s head, causing one bullet to discharge harmlessly into a nearby concrete wall. As a result, no one was fatally injured in this incident.
Preliminary police investigations suggest the motive was related to the victim having separated from Mr. Weerayut and remarried, combined with ongoing disputes over some time.
After the incident, Mr. Weerayut fled to avoid prosecution. The Sri Songkhram Police investigators requested an arrest warrant from Nakhon Phanom Provincial Court to proceed with legal action against him.
Later, police conducted relentless investigations and tracked down a key lead that Mr. Weerayut, also known as Yut, was hiding in a rented room in Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province, living with his new wife.
The arrest team went to the rented room and covertly surveilled the area. When the suspect appeared outside his room, they surrounded him, identified him as the wanted person, and took him into custody. He was then brought to Sri Songkhram Police Station, Nakhon Phanom Province, to face legal proceedings.
