Meanwhile, the Narathiwat Task Force issued a statement regarding the incident, stating that on 24 March 2026 at 20:52, violent assailants ambushed and shot Asst. Ranger Darun Darohaeng of Ranger Company 4813 in front of his home at Phlong Village, To Deng Subdistrict, Su-ngai Padi District, Narathiwat Province, while he was resting with family and neighbors, resulting in his death.

On behalf of the Narathiwat Task Force, I express my deepest condolences to the family of "Darun," a hero who sacrificed for his homeland. This event is not only the loss of a soldier but the loss of a "child of Su-ngai Padi" who had been dedicated to maintaining peace for both Buddhist and Muslim communities. The Task Force wishes to clarify and affirm its intentions regarding this incident as follows:

1. Condemn the inhumane act: The ambush of an officer while resting at home among family and community is cowardly and a grave human rights violation. It reflects the twisted ideology of the perpetrators who aim to spread fear rather than peace.

2. Accountability: As commander, I take responsibility for this incident by promptly enhancing protection measures for personnel during leave and ensuring full welfare and support for the deceased’s family.

3. Law enforcement: I have ordered relevant units to integrate efforts in pursuing the perpetrators to bring them to justice fully. We will not allow those who disrupt public peace to evade punishment and will intensify proactive pressure on all perpetrators in every dimension.

4. Military commitment: "Darun" exemplified a brave soldier serving with spirit. He had recently completed duties protecting the public during important festivals. His passing will not be in vain but will inspire the military and all officers to stand firmly with the people to eliminate dark influences and insurgent groups undermining peace in the southern border provinces.

Finally, the public can trust that the military will not yield to the "ambushes" of malicious groups and will continue to perform its duties with patience, restraint, and decisiveness in protecting the lives and property of all citizens.
