Case Against Former Wat Dhammakaya Abbot Luang Por Dhammajayo Ordered Closed Due to Statute of Limitations

The case has ended. " Luang Por Dhammajayo" the former abbot of Wat Dhammakaya. Academic Jaturong revealed a letter from the "Department of Special Investigation (DSI)"notifying the order to terminate prosecution on charges of money laundering and receiving stolen property due to the statute of limitations.

On 27 March 2026 GMT+7, it was reported that academic Jaturong Jongarsa, a scholar of Buddhism, posted a message on his Facebook page.Jaturong Jongarsastated that the case against " Luang Por Dhammajayo" has been closed. He added, "Luang Por no longer needs to remain in hiding; he can appear publicly as before. #EndOfNews #CaseClosed"

He also shared a document from the Department of Special Investigation announcing the order to terminate prosecution, which stated,"The Special Prosecutor, Division 4, Office of the Special Prosecutor, Office of the Attorney General,has issued a letter ordering the termination of prosecution against Phra Thepyanmahamuni (Chaiyaboon Sutthiphon), also known as Phra Rajapawanawisut or Phra Athikan Chaiyaboon Dhammajayo, and Ms. Sasithorn, on charges of conspiracy to launder money, jointly laundering money, and receiving stolen property under the Anti-Money Laundering Act B.E. 2542 (1999), sections 5, 9, and 60, as amended by the Anti-Money Laundering Act (No. 5) B.E. 2558 (2015), and the Criminal Code sections 83, 91, and 357, due to the statute of limitations expiring..."
