Superintendent of Sutthisan Police Station Explains Staircase to 2nd Floor Is Inaccessible New Building Not Yet Open

Pol. Col. Pornthep Chalermkiat, superintendent of Sutthisan Police Station, explained the issue regarding the inaccessible staircase to the 2nd floor, stating that the new Sutthisan Police Station building is not yet open and is still undergoing interior decoration. Therefore, temporary ceiling panels have been installed to block the stairway.

Regarding the case where a photo and message were posted on social media, Pol. Lt. Col. Theerawat Panyanathamkul, a member of the People's Party and a former MP candidate who resigned from the police force to reform it, revealed on his personal Facebook that he recently passed by the Sutthisan Police Station and found the new building "truly beautiful," modern, and appealing for use. However, upon closer inspection, he was puzzled by the staircase leading to the 2nd floor being inaccessible. He wondered if the designers or constructors coordinating the 1st and 2nd floors had communicated properly. To fix the issue, either the 1st floor stairs would need to be demolished or a floor opening on the 2nd floor created. He also noted that the parking building's entrance is narrow and difficult to maneuver. Considering the substantial budget spent on construction, he felt disappointed by such details, sympathizing with taxpayers and the police who must work in a building that should have been better.

Meanwhile, the Facebook page "Tong Cha" previously questioned the construction budget exceeding 139 million baht, noting that a Chinese company responsible for building the Office of the Auditor General had previously constructed a building that collapsed.

Today (29 Mar 2026 GMT+7), reporters visited Sutthisan Police Station to verify the facts. Initially, it was found that the internal staircase leading from the ground floor to the 2nd floor of the new police station building was blocked off with plywood and light fixtures, preventing access to the upper floor.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that this area is not yet open for use as interior decoration is still in progress. Therefore, for safety reasons, ceiling panels have been temporarily installed to block the stairway. Once the new police station building officially opens to the public, the stairway will be accessible as normal.

Pol. Col. Pornthep Chalermkiat, superintendent of Sutthisan Police Station, explained that the new police station building is currently not in use. Regarding the staircase issue, he confirmed that under normal circumstances it is fully functional, but since interior decoration is still underway, temporary ceiling panels have been installed to ensure the safety of workers. He added that the public should wait until construction is fully completed.
