29-Year-Old Man Holds Methamphetamine, Turns Himself In to Police After Struggling Outside Prison

A 29-year-old man held methamphetamine pills and went to the police station after struggling to live outside prison, claiming no family acceptance or support and wanting to return inside once again.

A reporter stated that on 29 March 2026, Police Sergeant Major Theera Ruannoi, patrol team leader at Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Police Station, reported that Pongsawat Sinchai, 29, from Uthai District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, came forward telling officers he wanted to be arrested.

The suspect then handed over a plastic bag containing three methamphetamine pills for inspection. Officers carefully examined the drugs before taking him in for questioning. During interrogation, Pongsawat said he had just been released from a drug offense sentence on 18 March but had no family acceptance or support and faced hardship. He decided to consume five methamphetamine pills and carried three more, planning for over two days to get arrested because he wanted to return to prison, where he had food and friends to talk with.

Afterward, officials conducted a urine test which detected drugs in his system (result showing purple color). He was charged with "using Category 1 narcotics" and "possessing Category 1 narcotics."

Although the suspect intended to be arrested, the police must strictly follow legal procedures, turning his wish to return to prison into reality.

Initially, he was detained and sent to the prosecutor for legal proceedings. Authorities also urged that former inmates should receive care and opportunities from society to reduce recidivism and prevent similar incidents from happening again.
