In a late-night incident, an electric car crashed through the window of a convenience store in Bang Lamphu, injuring eight people. The driver claimed she lost control at the time of the accident. Police from Chana Songkhram station are preparing to conduct further questioning but have yet to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Reporters state that during the midnight hours of 31 March 2026, police from Chana Songkhram station received a report that a private car had crashed into a convenience store branch in Bang Lamphu, Bowonniwet Road, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. Several people were injured, prompting police and Ruamkatanyu Foundation volunteers to investigate the scene.
At the scene, CCTV footage captured a sequence before the crash: an electric car parked near a roundabout on Bowonniwet Road, Phra Nakhon District, Bangkok. The vehicle then accelerated and circled the roundabout about twice before crashing into a passenger tricycle, a noodle shop on the sidewalk, and the convenience store, causing damage. This incident resulted in eight people being injured.
After the accident, local residents, Chana Songkhram police, and rescue teams quickly assisted the victims. Volunteers from Ruamkatanyu Foundation rushed the injured to nearby hospitals. Initially, eight people were reported injured: two foreigners — including a German woman — and six Thais, consisting of four women and two men.
Mr. Chaloemchai Leelayingyot, the owner of the noodle shop, recounted that the vehicle accelerated and circled the roundabout twice. His mother and girlfriend, fearing danger, sought refuge inside the convenience store but were still injured when the car crashed into the store.
Besides damage to the shops and convenience store, a passenger tricycle parked in front of the store was also damaged. The tricycle driver said that if the car had not struck his vehicle first, the injuries could have been more severe. The tricycle helped slow the car somewhat, but those on the tricycle, people eating at the noodle shop, and others nearby were also injured.
According to police, the 57-year-old female driver initially stated she could not control the vehicle during the accident. This preliminary statement was given before she was taken to hospital. Authorities have not yet concluded the exact cause and will conduct further questioning and review CCTV footage to establish the facts.
Damage extended beyond the convenience store to the noodle shop, the passenger tricycle, and the injured individuals. The insurance company for the vehicle has conducted an initial damage assessment and stated it will cover all costs. Medical expenses for the injured are covered under the law, providing 80,000 baht per person, not including voluntary insurance.
