Ambush Shooting Kills Deputy District Chief of Janae and 27-Year-Old Woman in Pickup Truck

In Narathiwat, assailants ambushed and heavily fired upon a pickup truck, resulting in the deaths of the Deputy District Chief of Security Affairs of Janae District and a 27-year-old woman who was riding with him, totaling two fatalities. Police have not yet identified the motive behind the attack.

At 01:00 on 1 Apr 2026, Police Colonel Weerasak Persala, Chief of Janae Police Station, Narathiwat, received a report of an ambush shooting targeting a pickup truck on a road in Su Khae Village, Moo 3, Dusongyo Subdistrict. He informed his superiors and dispatched a combined force of police and military personnel to investigate the scene.

Authorities found a black four-door Toyota pickup parked by the roadside, riddled with bullet holes throughout. Two people were found dead: Mr. Monchai Chitkamolkan, Deputy District Chief of Security Affairs of Janae District (Special Administrative Officer), and Ms. Haida Bueraheng, 27, a resident of Dusongyo Subdistrict, Janae District, Narathiwat. Both had multiple gunshot wounds. The bodies were taken to Janae Hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Police Colonel Weerasak secured the area and assigned ranger troops to guard the crime scene. Coordination was made with relevant agencies to conduct further investigations in the morning.

Preliminary information indicates that before the incident, the two victims were traveling together on personal business. Afterward, Mr. Monchai was driving Ms. Haida home when the vehicle reached the scene, where a group of assailants was reportedly hiding in the roadside forest. Upon seeing the vehicle, they opened fire with firearms, discharging several dozen rounds until they were certain both victims were dead. The attackers then fled using their knowledge of the area. The motive remains unclear, pending evidence collection and thorough investigation of possible security issues, personal conflicts, or love-related motives.
