Prachachat Party Urges Prime Minister Anutin to Investigate Issue of Internal Security Command Pickup Truck Used in Shooting of MP Kamonsak

The Prachachat Party calls on Prime Minister Anutin to investigate the issue of an Internal Security Command (ISC) pickup truck that was used in the attack on lawyer Waeyuha and Narathiwat MP Kamonsak Leewamo. They believe the four suspects arrested have a mastermind behind the crime who ordered the attack.

On 3 April 2026, at the Prachachat Party headquarters in Don Mueang district, Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong, party leader, together with Narathiwat MP Kamonsak Leewamo, held a press conference to update on the case where assailants used military-grade firearms to attack MP Kamonsak's vehicle in front of his home in Bajoh subdistrict, Bajoh district, Narathiwat province. The attack happened after he returned from Hat Yai airport following a parliamentary session on 20 March 2026, resulting in two police officers and the driver sustaining serious injuries.

At one point, Police Colonel Tawee stated that they are fully aware that unrest in the southern region, whether targeting MP Kamonsak or anyone else, is a serious concern. They wish for everyone's safety and for thorough, straightforward investigations to bring all perpetrators to justice in every case.

Police Colonel Tawee added that from the day of the incident until now, they know that police and related officials have worked diligently. Reports indicate that special laws have been used to detain several individuals, and arrest warrants under the Criminal Procedure Code have been issued. He expressed support and encouragement to the police and the case-solving team.

However, one concern is the vehicle used in the attack—a white car known to be government property. After the crime, it was dismantled and discarded in the water. The government agency involved is the ISC. Therefore, the Prime Minister, as the overseer of the ISC, particularly the forward command which handles investigation and enforcement, is requested to ensure confidence and take an active role in investigating how the vehicle was allowed to be used in the assassination attempt on MP Kamonsak. The investigation should proceed strictly based on evidence to avoid suspicion.

Police Colonel Tawee further urged the government and agencies that rely heavily on the ISC to resolve issues in the three southern border provinces to promptly examine why a government vehicle was used in the crime and to ensure that officials are not influenced in their duties. He called on the Prime Minister, as director of the ISC, along with the Army Commander and the Fourth Army Region commander, to support the operatives and to conduct their work transparently to prevent ambiguity.

He continued that they want to identify the masterminds and those who commissioned the crime. This clarity depends on the government and the Prime Minister. When a vehicle from this agency becomes involved, it causes fear among officials, discouraging them from performing their duties. Therefore, the government should openly demonstrate its role and responsibility.

Meanwhile, MP Kamonsak said they obtained dashcam footage from the vehicle he was riding in, clearly showing the license plate and vehicle type. This led to further investigation and identification of suspects. It was found that parts of the vehicle had been dismantled and that it belonged to the Narathiwat ISC. He wants to know who ordered the attack and the motive behind it. The nature of the attack was an assassination attempt, despite attempts to portray it as targeting only the driver, with surveillance reportedly tracking him since Hat Yai airport.
