Police are intensively tracking a 53-year-old man who abducted the daughter of his friend, a 12-year-old girl missing from her home in Mukdahan for several months. An arrest warrant has now been issued for him.
::The Mirror Foundation posted a call for leads regarding a 12-year-old girl abducted by a 53-year-old man. The girl, named Nong Cat, went missing from Village No. 5, Pho Sai Subdistrict, Don Tan District, Mukdahan Province, on 6 March 2026 at 6:00 a.m. Nong Cat is of average build, approximately 160 cm tall, weighing about 55 kg, with reddish-dark skin, long black hair, and has slower learning development compared to peers. She was abducted by Mr. Khrai, also known as Home, age 53, for whom police have issued an arrest warrant.
Yesterday (2 April 2026), reporters visited the home of Mr. Suriya, or Lao, aged 66, the father of the abducted girl. Mr. Lao showed the condition of his daughter's bedroom and displayed photos of her school uniform she used to wear at boarding school. With tears, he expressed his hope that his longtime friend, Mr. Khrai, who abducted his daughter, would return her because he misses her deeply every day.
Later, the girl's mother took reporters to the area beside their house, which she said was the suspect's hiding place. It is believed that Mr. Khrai hid there for several hours until he found an opportunity when the parents were away to sneak into the house and take the 12-year-old girl away. Counting the time, it has been nearly one month since the abduction.
Ms. Chofa, 49, the girl’s guardian, shared that she and her sister, who lives abroad, have been caring for the girl since first grade through sixth grade, supporting her living needs and clothing, and enrolling her in school. The girl often stayed at their house. On the day she disappeared, she returned home to sleep, but was taken away by the father’s friend, and Ms. Chofa appeals for the person who took her to return her to the family.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Phairoj Thaiputra, Commander of Mukdahan Provincial Police, stated that police have issued an arrest warrant and have been tracking the suspect since the parents filed a report. The warrant charges the suspect with unlawful entry into another’s residence and abducting a minor (under 15 years old) by taking or separating the child from their parents or guardians without reasonable cause or consent, even if the child agrees.
Today (3 April 2026), relatives of the suspect, including his elder sister, revealed that they had seen the younger brother frequently visiting the girl’s family, sometimes accompanied by the girl’s mother. He often brought the girl to the village, and this visiting had continued for nearly a year.
About two months ago, the younger brother separated from his wife to live with the girl’s family. Since then, the sister has had no news of him until police inquired about him in early March. Yesterday, she learned that police had issued an arrest warrant for her brother.
An inspection around Mr. Home’s house, the suspect, found it securely locked. Neighbors said they had not seen Mr. Home enter his house for almost a month and did not know his whereabouts. This was different from before, when he lived with his former wife and regularly stayed at this house.
