Cyber police raided and arrested a 50-year-old man who had been illegally collecting firearms along with numerous seized items. The suspect confessed to a fondness for guns and said he began gradually purchasing and collecting them over more than 10 years. Recently, his son secretly posted photos of the firearms on Facebook, leading to the arrest.
On 3 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surapol Prembutr, Commander of the Cyber Crime Division, along with Pol. Lt. Gen. Naradet Thiprak, Commander assigned to the Royal Thai Police Headquarters assisting the Cyber Crime Division, and Pol. Maj. Gen. Sila Kanjanarak, Commander of Cyber Crime Division 5, ordered Pol. Col. Natthaphong Trongthieng, Chief of Division 4, Cyber Crime Division 5, and Pol. Lt. Col. Komsan Samorn, Deputy Chief of Division 4, Cyber Crime Division 5, to lead officers with a search warrant from Trang Provincial Court to search a house in Village 5, Bang Dee Subdistrict, Huai Yot District, Trang Province, where they arrested the homeowner, Mr. Weerayut Wannaboworn, 50.
Seized evidence included one .45 caliber handgun, one 9 mm handgun, two Thai-made short shotguns using 12-gauge shells, one .38 caliber break-barrel Thai-made pistol, two Thai-made rifles using .22 caliber ammunition, and a total of 141 rounds of various ammunition.
The investigation began after officers from Investigation Division 4, Cyber Crime Division 5, found a Facebook user account posting images flaunting illegal firearms. They traced the user to a residence in Trang Province, collected evidence, and obtained a court search warrant to apprehend Mr. Weerayut and seize the firearms.
During interrogation, Mr. Weerayut confessed that all firearms belonged to him. He said he has a passion for guns and has been gradually acquiring and collecting them for over 10 years for sentimental reasons only, and he never used them to harm anyone. Previously, his son had secretly posted photos of the guns on Facebook, which led to the arrest.
Police charged him with "possession of firearms and ammunition without a license from the registrar" and took him into custody to proceed with legal actions.
