At 19:00 on 4 April 2026, Major General Nattapong Asawinwong, Commander of the 9th Infantry Division and Commander of the Surasi Task Force, coordinated with Warittha Sanguansermsri, Governor of Kanchanaburi Province, and Police Major General Pasavee Rueangphu, Commander of Kanchanaburi Provincial Police. They received intelligence reports about a fuel smuggling operation disguised among goods being exported to neighboring countries.
They ordered Colonel Pansak Priewpanich, Commander of the Lat Ya Task Force of the Surasi military unit, along with Colonel Piyanet Pattarasasawatwong, Deputy Commander of the Lat Ya Task Force, to coordinate with Police Colonel Santi Pitaksakun, Superintendent of Sangkhla Buri Police Station, and other officials to intensify inspections and crack down on smuggling activities.
At 19:10, the Surasi Task Force's Lat Ya Task Force and the 29th Infantry Regiment, together with Sangkhla Buri Police Station, Sangkhla Buri Customs, Border Patrol Police Company 134, and local administrative officials, jointly arrested Mr. Mongkol, age 43, from Nong Lu Subdistrict, Sangkhla Buri District, Kanchanaburi Province. He was driving a white Toyota Revo single-cab pickup truck, license plate Kanchanaburi, and was stopped on Road 323 near the Nam Krik junction, coordinates MS 378871, Ban Songkaria, Village No. 8, Nong Lu Subdistrict, Sangkhla Buri District, Kanchanaburi Province, showing suspicious behavior.
Officials searched the rear of the truck, which was carrying goods, and found 42 gallons of gasoline hidden under sacks of ice, totaling 1,260 liters. They arrested the suspect and seized the fuel, the vehicle, and two mobile phones. The suspect was taken to Sangkhla Buri Police Station for prosecution under the Customs Act of 2017.
During initial questioning, the suspect admitted he bought 30 gallons of fuel at a gas filling station in Sangkhla Buri District at 60 baht per liter. He planned to smuggle the fuel through natural border routes to sell in the Bo Nippon village area of Myanmar at 100-120 baht per liter.
